About Molefhi Moirapula
Dr Molefhi Moirapula Abotseng is a Lecturer in the Department of Biomedical Sciences within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Botswana. He obtained his undergraduate degree from North West University in South Africa. He completed an MSc in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Central China Normal University in the People’s Republic of China and earned a PhD in Biochemistry from North West University in South Africa. His teaching areas encompass Molecular Biology and Biochemistry.
Dr Abotseng’s research focuses on Diabetes and Obesity Therapeutics. He has investigated the use of oleanolic acid as a phytochemical to prevent metabolic syndrome and examined the effects of lipid metabolism and mitochondrial biogenesis in fructose-induced neonatal metabolic derangement using rat models. His work demonstrates that oleanolic acid modulates fatty acids, genes and proteins involved in lipid oxidation and mitochondrial biogenesis.
