About Molly

Molly Vaughan is a Full Professor of Art in the Fine Art Department at Bellevue College, where she specializes in Drawing & Printmaking. She teaches Drawing I, Drawing II, Advanced Drawing, Painting I, Painting II, Printmaking I, and Printmaking II. Vaughan holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts in New York (1999), a Master of Fine Arts from the University of South Florida in Tampa (2009), and a Master of Arts in Teaching in the Visual Arts from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia (2009). She joined Bellevue College in 2015 as Assistant Professor of Art, was promoted to Associate Professor in 2018, Senior Associate Professor in 2020, and Full Professor. Prior to her tenure-track position, she served as adjunct professor at New College of Florida (2012–2015), University of Tampa (2011–2015), University of South Florida (2010–2012), Art Institute of Tampa (2007–2012), and Seminole Community College (2004–2006).

Vaughan's artistic practice integrates drawing, printmaking, painting, textiles, and performance, with key projects such as Project 42, featuring portraits and installations memorializing victims of anti-transgender violence. Her solo exhibitions include Molly Vaughan: Project 42 at the Seattle Art Museum (2018) and Bainbridge Island Museum of Art (2021), After Boucher: Boren Banner Series at the Frye Art Museum (2022), and Molly Vaughan: Transition as Performance, Life as Resistance at Seattle University Hedreen Gallery. Group exhibitions feature Site of Struggle at The Block Museum of Art (2022), Queer Threads at San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles (2023), and State of Fashion Biennial: Ways of Caring in Arnhem, Netherlands (2022). Her work is in permanent collections of the Seattle Art Museum, Frye Art Museum, The Block Museum, Henry Art Gallery, and Stanley Museum of Art. Awards include the Betty Bowen Award from the Seattle Art Museum (2017), Betty Parsons Fellowship from Art Matters Foundation (2021), Neddy Award Finalist (2018), and selection to represent Washington State in New Worlds – Women to Watch at the National Museum of Women in the Arts (2024). Publications featuring her work encompass The Advocate, New American Paintings, Texte Zur Kunst, The Guardian, and Transgender Studies Quarterly. She has delivered artist talks at Bellevue Art Museum (2022), Seattle Art Museum (2021), Tacoma Art Museum (2019), and others.
