Morgan Ericsson is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Media Technology within the Faculty of Technology at Linnaeus University in Växjö, Sweden. He obtained his PhD from Växjö University in 2008, with the doctoral thesis titled Composition and Optimization published by Växjö University Press. Since 1998, Ericsson has been teaching in higher education, developing and examining more than 25 different courses at bachelor's, master's, and PhD levels. These include programming languages such as C, Pascal, and Assembler; operating systems; databases; distributed systems; object-oriented analysis and design; parallel programming; algorithms; and advanced data structures. His current courses encompass Algorithms and Advanced Data Structures (1DV516, 1DV018), Algorithms (1DT907), and Using Python for Research.
Ericsson's research specializes in automated methods for determining software quality and functionality, initially through metrics like cohesion and cyclomatic complexity for source code and technical documentation. His current focus involves data analysis and measurement for software artifacts, extracting quality assessments from large datasets, and applying them to complex systems using machine learning, such as in forest attribute maps, log inspection, and code-to-architecture mapping. He acts as research coordinator in the Linnaeus University Centre for Data Intensive Sciences and Applications (DISA), and participates in groups like Data Intensive Software Technologies and Applications (DISTA) and the High-Performance Computing Center (HPCC). Ongoing projects include HPC for SME and In-line visual inspection using unsupervised learning; completed ones feature Development of a Master Programme in Computer Science and Software Technology for Self-Adaptive Systems.
