UKZN celebrates 20 top first-year students with Vice-Chancellor's Circle of Excellence Awards for stellar 2025 matric results, amid KZN's record 90.6% pass rate.

Prof Msizi Mkhize is currently the Pro-Vice-Chancellor: Student Services Division at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He previously served as Dean of Teaching and Learning in the College of Law and Management Studies at UKZN, Academic Leader for Teaching and Learning in the School of Accounting, Economics and Finance at UKZN, and as an accounting education lecturer at the UKZN School of Education. Earlier in his career, he worked as Project Manager of Transformation and Growth at the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants, Departmental Head of Commercial Subjects at Zwelibanzi High School, and as an Accounting and Mathematics teacher at Menzi High School, where he developed a turnaround strategy.
He holds a PhD and an MCom from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, a BCom Honours from the University of South Africa, a BCom from the University of Zululand, and a Diploma in Education from Indumiso College of Education. Mkhize is a recipient of the 2018 UKZN Distinguished Teachers’ Award for his sustained contribution to teaching and learning. In 2019, he received a National Excellence in Teaching Commendation from the Council on Higher Education and the Higher Education Learning and Teaching Association of Southern Africa. He is also a “Play Your Part” Brand Ambassador for South Africa. His work has included community outreach such as free mathematics tutorials and accounting examination workshops for high school pupils.
