Rate My Professor Muhammad Arif

Dr. Muhammad Arif serves as Associate Professor in the Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Department at Khalifa University. He previously held a position at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia. He earned a Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering from Curtin University in Australia in 2017, along with M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology in Pakistan in 2012 and 2009, respectively.

Dr. Arif leads research projects focused on rock/fluid interactions at multiple scales, with interests in enhanced oil recovery, CO2 and H2 geo-storage, wettability and interfacial interactions, and unconventional reservoirs. He has authored more than 90 articles in reputable journals, achieving an h-index of 26 and publications in top 1 percent ranked outlets. He holds the position of Associate Editor for the Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering at Elsevier and has served as Guest Editor for Frontiers in Earth Science. Dr. Arif has chaired or co-chaired technical sessions at international conferences and reviews for multiple scientific journals. He was included in Stanford University’s list of the world’s top 2 percent of scientists in the field of Energy for 2021 and 2022 and received the Research Excellence Award from the College of Engineering at Khalifa University. His teaching covers topics including well testing, well stimulation, and enhanced oil recovery.
