About Nancy

Nancy R. Gallo, J.D., serves as Associate Vice-President of Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty at Sussex County Community College, where she holds the rank of Professor of Legal Studies. She is also the Director of the Center for Lifelong Learning, which she co-founded in January 2015 with the Senior Services Division of Sussex County, New Jersey, to promote lifelong learning for seniors at the college's Newton location. Gallo earned her J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law and graduated cum laude from William Paterson University with a bachelor's degree. Prior to law school, she worked as a newspaper features editor and award-winning reporter. She practiced law in both Florida and New Jersey and teaches courses within the Legal Studies and Business Programs at the college. Previously, she served as Dean of Professional Studies, Social Sciences, and STEM, and as coordinator of the Legal Studies Programs.

Gallo's primary research interests focus on elder law and issues of aging in the 21st century. She is the author of the textbook Introduction to Family Law, published as part of the West Legal Studies Series, and Elder Law, published by Delmar/Thompson Publishing. Gallo wrote and produced the radio show Legal Briefs. As a faculty member at Sussex County Community College, she received a grant funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities for the study "Paul Robeson, 20th Century Humanist and Lawyer." In her current administrative capacity, she oversees a broad range of academic majors and programs, including Accounting, Business Administration, Business Management, Criminal Justice, Human Services, Paralegal Studies, Liberal Arts with Pre-Law and Political Science options, and various options in Science & Mathematics, Studio Arts, and Technical Studies. Her leadership supports academic excellence, transfer agreements with four-year institutions, and community engagement efforts such as grant-funded initiatives in journalism training and public safety academies.
