She earned her PhD in Behavioural Science in Relation to Medicine and Master of Public Health from the University of Newcastle, complemented by a Bachelor of Clinical Practice in Paramedicine from Charles Sturt University. With sixteen years as a registered paramedic providing on-road clinical care, Dodd transitioned into academia, spending five years in medical education at Griffith University, Sunshine Coast. There, she coordinated an entire year-level of the Doctor of Medicine program, delivered simulation-based communication skills training, and spearheaded a student support initiative.
Dodd is an early career researcher whose work centers on interprofessional education, health professions communication, paramedic wellbeing, student support, and health behaviours including cancer screening. She has attracted over $350,000 in competitive grants, such as funding for developing a GP-specific Certificate in Clinical Practice and Supervision ($114,185, 2017), colorectal cancer screening interventions ($22,762, 2015-2016), and COVID-19 infection prevention strategies ($5,000, 2020). Her fourteen peer-reviewed publications include notable works like "The implementation of interprofessional education: a scoping review" (Bogossian et al., Advances in Health Sciences Education, 2023), "Recommendations for the design of interprofessional education" (Shakhovskoy et al., 2022), "Paramedic and medical students' interprofessional education experiences" (Dodd et al., 2025), "How do paramedics cope? A scoping review" (Warren-James et al., Australasian Emergency Care, 2022), and the book chapter "Patient Safety" in Paramedic Law and Regulation in Australia (Ebbs, ed., 2023). Recognized with the Hunter Cancer Research Alliance Implementation Science Research Higher Degree Student Award ($5,000, 2017) and Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), Dodd actively contributes to the Sunshine Coast Health Institute's Interprofessional Leads Working Group, designing collaborative education modules. She holds memberships in the Academy of Clinical Educators, Australasian College of Paramedicine, and other professional bodies.
