Natalie Sewell is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Law and Criminology at Murdoch University. She holds the position of Academic Chair for the Business Law major in the Bachelor of Business program. Her qualifications include an LLB and BEc from the University of Adelaide, and an MIR from the University of Western Australia. Sewell has a sustained career at Murdoch University, contributing to legal education in areas relevant to business and workplace contexts. She coordinates and teaches specialized units such as LLB363 Employment Relations Law and LLB372 Work Health and Safety Law. These units cover key Australian legislation including the Fair Work Act, uniform Work Health and Safety laws, and significant case law pertinent to employment relations and occupational safety.
Sewell is the author of Employment Law: Concepts and Cases, 4th edition, published by LexisNexis Butterworths in 2017. This text provides comprehensive coverage of employment law principles, concepts, and illustrative cases in the Australian context. She also published the article 'Regulating for Australia's Youngest Workers' in the journal Children Australia in 2013, which examines child labour protections, occupational health and safety standards, and related regulatory frameworks such as the Model Work Health and Safety Act. Additionally, Sewell has supervised postgraduate theses, including research on how employment and family law intersect to uphold human rights, and analyses of union right of entry provisions under the Fair Work Act 2009 for workplace safety purposes. Through her teaching, authorship, and supervision roles, Sewell supports the development of expertise in employment relations, workplace law, and business law at Murdoch University.
