Professor Nial Wheate is a Professor (Teaching and Leadership) in the School of Natural Sciences within the Chemistry discipline at Macquarie University. A graduate of the Australian Defence Force Academy, he served as an officer in the Royal Australian Navy in various roles prior to becoming an academic. Wheate earned a Bachelor of Science with First Class Honours and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of New South Wales, along with a Doctor of Science and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Sydney. His career trajectory includes Associate Lecturer in the School of Sciences at the University of New South Wales, Research Fellowship in the School of Biomedical and Health Sciences at Western Sydney University, Lecturer in the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Science at the University of Strathclyde in Scotland, and Senior Lecturer then Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney.
