Nicholas Summers is a Lecturer and Moot Program Coordinator in the School of Law at the University of Notre Dame Australia, Fremantle campus, where he also serves as the Mentoring and Internship Coordinator for the Law program. His career in legal education and practice is marked by a blend of academic achievement, judicial exposure, commercial litigation experience, and dedication to student advocacy training. Summers earned his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Bachelor of Commerce (BComm) from Murdoch University in 2009. In 2010, he moved to Melbourne to pursue a Master of Laws (LLM) by coursework, which was conferred in 2012, enhancing his legal expertise during this period.
Early in his professional journey, Summers worked as a Research Associate to Justice Kenneth Martin and Justice Corboy of the Supreme Court of Western Australia in 2011, providing him with direct insight into appellate judicial processes and high-level legal research. In 2012, he commenced practice at an international law firm in Perth, focusing on commercial litigation and arbitration across key sectors including energy and resources, mining, and mining services. This hands-on experience in contentious matters honed his skills in dispute resolution and commercial law. Transitioning to academia in 2017, Summers joined the University of Notre Dame Australia, teaching core subjects such as contract law, administrative law, and moot court. Appointed Moot Program Coordinator in 2018, he has played a pivotal role in developing students' practical advocacy abilities. Under his coaching, the university's law moot teams secured victories in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal National Mooting Competition in both 2017 and 2018, underscoring his impact on competitive legal training and student success. Additionally, through his coordination of mentoring and internships, Summers facilitates vital professional networking opportunities for law students, bridging classroom learning with real-world legal practice.
