Nicola Dever serves as Research Services Librarian in the Research Services Unit (RSU) at the University of Otago Library, having commenced this role in 2024. Prior to her current position, she acted as Subject Librarian for the Division of Sciences, where she provided support for a variety of subjects over several years. Dever's career at the University of Otago further includes service as a Research Assistant in the Department of Management and as a Research Assistant at the Centre for Sustainability (CSAFE). She has also gained extensive practical experience working in public libraries, school libraries, and other tertiary libraries, fostering a broad foundation in library services and operations.
Dever earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc), a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS), and a New Zealand Diploma of Teaching. Her professional interests focus on bibliometrics, research impact, and open access, with particular emphasis on aiding the academic community in these areas. She authors prominent LibGuides such as the 5-Day Research Impact Challenge, Research Metrics and Impact, and Researcher Identifiers, Profiles and Networks, which offer essential guidance to researchers. Additionally, Dever leads workshops including Introduction to Researcher Profiles, Getting Published, EndNote for PC (Windows), and The Thesis Guide, delivered via platforms like Zoom to enhance researchers' skills. Her contributions through these resources and sessions strengthen the research support ecosystem at the University of Otago. She identifies with she/her pronouns and holds personal interests in science, languages, learning, information technology, and coffee.
