Nicole Kovach is a Lecturer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery within the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Monash University. She earned a Bachelor of Nursing (BN), a Graduate Certificate in Emergency Nursing, and a Master of Advanced Clinical Nursing (Research), all from Monash University. Prior to academia, Kovach worked as a Registered Nurse for 12 years, mainly in the Emergency Department as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and Associate Nurse Manager. She joined Monash Nursing and Midwifery in 2017 as a Teaching Associate and was promoted to Lecturer in 2019. During her master's studies, she investigated the impact of art and reflective practice on medical education.
Kovach teaches in the Bachelor of Nursing and Bachelor of Nursing and Midwifery (Honours) programs, serving as Chief Examiner and Unit Coordinator for NUR1110 - Communication and Scholarship in Nursing and Midwifery, and NUR4113 - Translation of nursing knowledge for leadership in practice. Her research focuses on information literacy, education innovation, active learning strategies including escape rooms and art in nursing education, simulation-based education, and qualitative descriptive methodologies. Notable publications include "Challenges faced by international nursing students undertaking graduate research: Contemporary issues" (2025), "Exploring priority areas to establish quality improvement education partnerships: A nominal group technique study" (2025), "Escape Rooms in Nursing Education: A Systematic Review" (2024), and "Impact of art and reflective practice on medical education in the emergency department" (2023, 2024). In 2023, she was awarded a Fellowship by the Higher Education Academy. Kovach has organised the Monash Nursing and Midwifery Innovation Forum in 2023 and 2024, presented as a guest speaker at the ANZAPHE Conference (2024) and International Conference for Emergency Nursing (2023), and holds professional affiliations with the Australian and New Zealand Association for Health Professional Educators, College of Emergency Nursing Australasia, and Mental Health First Aid Australia, where she is an Accredited First Aider since 2022.
