Nicole Olshanski, D.N.P., is the Program Director and Assistant Professor of Nursing at Thiel College, a position she has held since her appointment on March 15, 2023. In this role, she oversees the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, leading it to key milestones such as accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education retroactive to April 2024, state board approval in December 2024, and the establishment of clinical site partnerships. She has organized events like Nursing for a Day for prospective students and accompanied nursing students on a medical mission trip to the Dominican Republic in October-November 2024, where the team provided healthcare services to 527 individuals. Olshanski's leadership emphasizes rigorous education and hands-on clinical preparation, as evidenced by the program's national recognition and student involvement in community health initiatives.
With over 20 years in nursing education and practice, Olshanski previously served as a tenured Associate Professor in the Centofanti School of Nursing at Youngstown State University and taught at Duquesne University, Robert Morris University, and the University of Pittsburgh. Clinically, she is the Lead Certified Nurse-Midwife at Mercy Health Youngstown, providing care in the Centering Pregnancy Program and working as a laborist. She has participated in medical outreaches delivering women's healthcare in Mexico, Nicaragua, and the Dominican Republic. Her contributions extend to professional organizations: she teaches the First Assist Class for the American College of Nurse-Midwives, coordinates conferences for the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetrics and Neonatal Nurses, writes exams for the American Midwifery Certification Board, and leads the Youngstown/Warren chapter of AWHONN. Olshanski holds an Associate Degree in Nursing from Butler Community College (1997), a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Slippery Rock University (1999), a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Pittsburgh, a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Waynesburg University (2010), and a post-master’s certificate in midwifery from Shenandoah University (2016). She is pursuing a grant for a Perinatal Depression/Anxiety Clinic.
