Helps students unlock their full potential.
Nina Brown is the Editor of Critic Te Ārohi, the student magazine of the Otago University Students' Association at the University of Otago. She served in this role for 2024 and 2025, following her time as a news editor and contributor. Critic Te Ārohi, founded in 1925, covers campus news, student life, and social issues, and under her leadership, it marked its centenary with a planned anthology chronicling 100 years of publication history. Brown has authored editorials, columns such as 'Local Produce: Exhuming our history,' and news articles on topics including university staff cuts, protests, and brain drain among graduates.
Brown holds a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Global Studies with a minor in Science Communication, and a postgraduate diploma in science communication from the University of Otago. Her postgraduate program was affected when the Department of Science Communication was discontinued in 2023 amid the university's $60 million deficit, leading her to fully commit to student media. She has participated in OUSA executive meetings, granted speaking rights, and contributed to student media initiatives. In early 2026, she expressed intentions to move to Australia, reflecting broader trends of New Zealand graduates seeking opportunities abroad.
