Dr. Nina Darmawan serves as a Lecturer in the WA School of Mines at Curtin University, within the Faculty of Science and Engineering, specifically contributing to the Minerals, Energy and Chemical Engineering disciplines. She is the Unit Coordinator for PRRE1003 Resources, Processes and Materials Engineering Foundations, where she delivers lectures on essential topics including material and energy resources, sustainability in engineering practices, processing technologies, and emerging materials and processes. Her teaching role emphasizes foundational engineering principles relevant to resources engineering, supporting students in understanding global resource challenges and sustainable solutions. Additionally, Dr. Darmawan holds the position of ITAS Study Assistant in the Centre for Aboriginal Studies under the Office of the Provost, aiding Indigenous students' academic success and promoting inclusivity across the university.
Prior to her current appointments, Dr. Nina Darmawan was a Post-Doctoral researcher in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Curtin University. Her research expertise lies in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and numerical simulations applied to chemical engineering processes. Key works include the publication 'Hydrodynamic Simulation of Cyclone Separators' (2010), focusing on cyclone performance modeling, and contributions to optimization studies such as 'Optimisation of Fluid Catalytic Cracking Cyclone Using CFD Simulation' noted in Curtin Engineering Research Report 2005. She has also co-authored research on 'Effect of Drag Models on CFD–DEM Predictions of Bubbling Fluidized Beds with Geldart D Particles,' advancing simulations of fluidized bed reactors. Through her combined teaching, research, and support roles, Dr. Darmawan significantly impacts engineering education and indigenous student support at Curtin University.
