Prof. Dr. Nooreen Mujahid serves as Director and Research Professor at the Applied Economics Research Centre (AERC), University of Karachi, positions she assumed in April 2023 and March 2023, respectively. She obtained her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Karachi in 2013, following a Master's degree from the same institution. Her distinguished academic career at the University of Karachi spans nearly three decades, commencing as a Lecturer in the Department of Economics in September 1995. She advanced to Assistant Professor in April 2006, with a period of deputation to the National Institute of Management, Karachi from October 2008 to October 2013, followed by continued service as Assistant Professor until June 2016. Promoted to Associate Professor in June 2016, she also chaired the Department of Economics from January 2021 until March 2023. Nooreen Mujahid has been nominated for a cultural scholarship in 2000-2001 and selected by the World Bank for a four-week refresher course on Public Economics in 2006. She is recognized as an HEC-approved Ph.D. supervisor.
Her research interests encompass labor economics, gender economics, development economics, social sector and public policy, economic growth, female labor supply, globalization, trade liberalization, unemployment, inflation, infrastructure, human capital, energy consumption, environmental sustainability, carbon emissions, climate change, SMEs, CPEC, ocean economy, and food security. With over 50 publications, key works include the international article 'Deep Dive into Pakistan's Ocean Economy: An Evaluation of Performance and Constraints' (Journal of Ocean and Coastal Economics, 2024), 'Impacts of Energy Production, Environmental Pollution, Healthcare Expenditure, FDI on the Economic Growth' (The International Journal of Learner Diversity and Identities, 2024), 'The Assessment of Occupational Injuries of Workers in Pakistan' (Safety and Health at Work, 2021), and 'Determinants of Life Expectancy and its Prospects under the Role of Economic Misery: A Case of Pakistan' (Social Indicators Research, 2016). National contributions feature 'Agricultural productivity under climate change vulnerability: does carbon reduction paths matter for sustainable agriculture?' (Environment, Development and Sustainability, 2025), 'Sectoral carbon dioxide emissions and environmental sustainability in Pakistan' (Environmental and Sustainability Indicators, 2024), and a book chapter 'Enhancing Food Security and Sustainable Development in Pakistan: Agricultural Advancements under CPEC' (2024). She holds editorial roles on boards including the Pakistan Journal of Applied Economics (Editor), Journal of Business Strategies, and RADS Journal of Business Management. Additionally, she contributes to committees such as the National Curriculum Review Committee (HEC, since 2022), Board of Faculty (Usman Institute of Engineering and Technology), and Academic Committee (Board of Intermediate Karachi).
