About Noureddine

Professor Noureddine Zemmouri is a full Professor of Architecture in the Department of Architecture at Université Mohamed Khider de Biskra, Algeria. He holds a PhD in Architecture and an MPhil in Building Engineering, and is a qualified architect. In his current roles, he serves as Vice-Rector in charge of postgraduate training, university habilitation, and scientific research, as well as Director of the Laboratory of Design and Modeling of Architectural Forms and Ambiances (LACOMOFA) within the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Hydraulics. Zemmouri contributes to architectural education through courses such as Modelization and Simulation, Project Theory, The Process of Designing Architectural Projects, and Introduction to Architectural Composition. His academic career at Université de Biskra emphasizes integrating research with practical design to address regional challenges in hot arid climates, fostering innovation in architecture, computing, environmental design, and sustainable urban development.

Zemmouri's research specializations include thermal comfort, energy efficiency, passive cooling strategies, urban morphology, environmental noise analysis, solar access assessment, and sustainable building performance in Saharan oases like Biskra. He has authored or co-authored 94 publications, accumulating over 1,000 citations. Notable works encompass 'Development of Spatial Distribution Maps for Energy Consumption in the Residential Sector: A Real-World Case Study of Biskra City, Algeria' (Sustainability, 2020), 'Parametric-Based Multi-Objective Optimization Workflow for Passive Building Design Considering Occupants’ Thermal Comfort in Hot Arid Regions' (Sustainability, 2022), 'Solar Access Assessment in Semi-Arid Urban Context: An Application of the Radiance Simulation in Biskra City, Algeria' (Sustainable Cities and Society, 2022), 'Exploration of Environmental Noise in Saharan Oases on the Basis of Urban Configurations: City of Biskra Datasets' (Sustainability, 2022), and 'Raising the Efficiency of Deployable Building Facades with Biomimetics for Hot and Arid Regions' (Solar Energy, 2020). His contributions extend to serving as a jury member for national design competitions, including the President's Architecture Award in 2009, and receiving the Jeffrey Cook Memorial Faculty Retreat Scholarship from the Society of Building Science Educators in 2010. Zemmouri's work bridges academia and practice, influencing sustainable architecture in arid environments.
