About Nyssa

Nyssa Bull serves as an Associate Lecturer at the UWA Law School, University of Western Australia. She delivers courses on Intellectual Property Law within the Juris Doctor program and Law and Power in the Law and Society program. Bull completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Law at UWA in 2025, with her doctoral thesis entitled "Empowering the voice of creators: how social media callouts drive access to justice and redefine intellectual property design enforcement," under the supervision of Jani McCutcheon, Robyn Carroll, and Fiona McGaughey. Her educational qualifications include a First Class Honours degree in Law from Curtin University, a Bachelor of Commerce from Curtin University, and a Bachelor of Laws from The University of Western Australia.

Bull's prior academic roles encompass Sessional Academic positions at UWA Law School and Curtin Law School. Professionally, she worked as a lawyer at firms including Mallon & Co Lawyers, Chang, Pistilli & Simmons, and Clayton Utz in Perth and Sydney. Her research specializations include intellectual property law, fashion and law, designs law, social media and the law, traditional cultural expressions, copyright, and moral rights. Notable publications feature the peer-reviewed article "Remedies in the Social Media Context: 'Calling Out' Design Appropriation" (co-authored with Robyn Carroll, Jani McCutcheon, and Fiona McGaughey), published in the Louisiana Law Review (85(3), pp. 839-868, April 2025), as well as conference presentations such as "Remedies in the Social Media Context: Calling out Design Appropriation" (2024) and "Challenging IP Appropriation through Calling Out: A Contemporary Mode of Resistance Within and Beyond Legal Frameworks" (2023).
