Dr. Omotayo Oladuntoye Fatokun is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Pharmacy at Monash University Malaysia. He earned a Bachelor of Pharmacy from the University of Lagos in 1993, a Master of Pharmacy in Clinical Pharmacy from the same institution in 2000, a PhD in Pharmaceutical Policy from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2014, and a Master of Public Health from the University of Johannesburg in 2022. As a registered pharmacist, he brings extensive experience in teaching, research, and professional practice. His career trajectory includes serving as Principal Medicines Regulatory Assessor at Nigeria's National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control from 2002 to 2007, Lecturer and Researcher from 2007 to 2013 and Assistant Professor and Researcher thereafter at UCSI University's Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, where he headed the Clinical Pharmacy Department, and his current role at Monash University Malaysia since January 2014. He has successfully supervised undergraduate and postgraduate research students and secured research grants totaling RM 239,100 internally and RM 114,500 externally during his time at UCSI.
Fatokun's research focuses on the generation and application of real-world evidence to inform healthcare policy, clinical practice, and public health decision-making. He employs administrative, clinical, economic, epidemiological, and population survey data to analyze patterns of medicine use, disease distribution, and health system performance, integrating pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacovigilance, health economics, and surveillance research, particularly in oncology and infectious diseases. He also examines regulatory, behavioral, and policy factors affecting access to essential and innovative therapies. Notable publications include "Biosimilar drug lag and evolution in Malaysia: A retrospective analysis of regulatory approvals" (2025, Journal of Applied Pharmaceutical Science), "Antimicrobial resistance at the human–animal–environment interface: A focus on antimicrobial-resistant Escherichia coli transmission dynamics, clinical implications, and future directions" (2024, International Journal of One Health), "Public awareness, risk perceptions and behaviour towards antibiotic use in food-producing animals and antimicrobial resistance in Malaysia: A cross-sectional study" (2024, Preventive Veterinary Medicine), "Exploring hormone replacement therapy dynamics among menopausal women in Kuala Lumpur – a community based survey" (2024, BMC Women's Health), and "Tackling Microbial Resistance and Emerging Pathogens with Next-Generation Antibiotics" (2024, Progress in Microbes and Molecular Biology). His scholarship has accumulated 584 citations with an h-index of 9 and i10-index of 8 on Google Scholar. Fatokun serves on the editorial board of PLOS Global Public Health and acted as guest editor for the journal in 2024.
