About Olalla
Olalla Díaz-Yáñez serves as Lecturer at the Department of Environmental Systems Science at ETH Zurich, where she works in the Forest Management Resources group. She holds a PhD in Forest Sciences from the University of Eastern Finland awarded in 2018, an MSc in European Forestry from the same institution in 2013, an MSc in Forest Management and Planning from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences also in 2013, and a BSc in Forest Engineering from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid completed in 2011. Prior to her current role, she held postdoctoral researcher positions at the University of Eastern Finland from 2018 to 2020 and joined ETH Zurich in 2020 initially with the Forest Ecology group. In January 2024 she advanced to senior researcher and deputy within the Forest Management Resources group.
Her research integrates climate–disturbance modelling, uncertainty-aware decision-making, cross-scale forest data, and practice-oriented tools to support robust forest management. She brings extensive experience in forest management under risk from prior affiliations including the US Forest Service, BOKU in Austria, and IUFRO. Her work focuses on forest dynamics, management impacts, and risks to forest ecosystems, contributing to improved strategies for forest risk management.
