About Oluwole
Dr Oluwole O. Oni is a Lecturer in Intensive Animal Health and Production in the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Surrey. He holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), a Master of Veterinary Science (MVSc), a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). His academic background supports his work in veterinary sciences with a focus on poultry health.
Dr Oni’s research specializations centre on avian health, encompassing rotavirus, avian influenza, Newcastle disease, mycoplasmosis, aflatoxin effects in poultry, haemoparasites, infectious bronchitis, avian leukosis, and Marek’s disease. He has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications, including studies on the detection of rotavirus in Nigerian poultry (2017), seroprevalence of avian influenza in Benin (2025), effects of aflatoxin binders in turkeys (2015 and 2016), and molecular characterization of Marek’s disease virus (2023). Prior to his current role at the University of Surrey, Dr Oni held positions involving veterinary research and teaching in Nigeria and other institutions. His work has advanced understanding of infectious diseases in poultry and informed biosecurity practices in smallholder farming systems.
