About Otávio

Otávio Cabral-Marques is a Professor Associado and holds the title of Livre-Docente in Molecular Medicine at the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (FM-USP). He is a psychologist and biologist who earned his MSc and PhD degrees in Immunology from the Universidade de São Paulo. His doctoral training included a sandwich period at the University of Washington and the Seattle Children’s Research Institute in the United States. He completed three postdoctoral fellowships in immunology at USP in Brazil and at the Universities of Lübeck and Freiburg in Germany. Cabral-Marques founded the Laboratório de Psiconeuroimunologia at FM-USP and serves as an advisor for master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral students at USP and the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte.

His research focuses on the systemic and integrative analysis of immune responses to viral infections, including COVID-19, Zika, and Dengue, as well as mechanisms of T-cell exhaustion, primary immunodeficiencies with immune dysregulation, and neuroimmune interactions. He has authored numerous scientific articles published in international journals such as JCI Insight and Frontiers in Immunology. Cabral-Marques has delivered lectures at national and international conferences across South America, Europe, and the United States. He is the Brazilian Junior Ambassador of the Universal Scientific Education and Research Network (USERN).
