Owen Parker is an associate professor in the Department of Management at the College of Business, University of Texas at Arlington. He earned his PhD in Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship from Indiana University Bloomington in 2015, MPhil in Development Studies from the University of Cambridge in 2010, Master of Social Work in 2009, and Bachelor of Social Work in 2008 from the University of Southern Mississippi. Prior to his current role, Parker served as Assistant Professor in the Spears School of Business at Oklahoma State University from 2015 to 2020, where he also held the Spears Faculty Fellow position.
Parker's research examines corporate reputation, managerial cognitions and decision-making, impression management, gender bias in entrepreneurship and leadership evaluations, performance feedback processes, and organizational innovation. His work has been published in leading journals including Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Management, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Strategic Organization, and Business & Society. Key publications include 'Accentuate the positive? Strategic negativity amid the hazard of high expectations' (Strategic Management Journal, 2024), 'Reputation belongs in more strategic decision models (and some data to measure it)' (Strategic Organization, 2023), 'How Firm Reputation Shapes Managerial Discretion' (Academy of Management Review, 2019), and 'Ripping off the Band-Aid: Scrutiny bundling in the wake of social disapproval' (Academy of Management Journal, 2018). With over 496 citations on Google Scholar, his scholarship influences behavioral strategy and reputation studies. Parker serves on the editorial review boards of Strategic Organization, Journal of Business Venturing, and Journal of Management. He has earned awards such as Best Reviewer of the Year from the Strategic Management Society Strategic Leadership & Governance Track (2024, third consecutive year), Outstanding Reviewer from the Organization and Management Theory Division of the Academy of Management (2023), Best Research Paper Award from Oklahoma State University (2019), and multiple best paper finalists and awards from Academy of Management and Strategic Management Society conferences. At UTA, he contributes to the Undergraduate Assembly and has presented in the Research Incubator Seminar Series.
