Dr. P. Vijaya Nirmala serves as Principal of the College of Science & Technology and Professor in the Department of Zoology at Adikavi Nannaya University, Rajamahendravaram, Andhra Pradesh. She earned her Ph.D. from Andhra University in 2011 with a thesis titled 'A Comparative Study of type-2 Diabetes Mellitus in rural, semi-urban and urban areas of Andhra Pradesh,' along with an M.Phil. in 2006, M.Sc. in 2001, and B.Ed. in 1998 from the same institution. Her career at Adikavi Nannaya University spans from Assistant Professor (Grade-I) in Life Sciences-Zoology (2007-2011), Assistant Professor (Grade-II) (2011-2016), Assistant Professor - Senior Scale (2016-2019), Head of Life Science-Zoology (2018-2023), to her current role as Principal (2023-present). She has held key administrative positions including Coordinator of UGC CELL (2019-present), Coordinator of SC/ST CELL (2018-present), Member of the Executive Council (2016-2018), and Associate Dean of the College Development Council (2015-2018). Dr. Nirmala has guided doctoral theses and chaired boards such as the UG Board of Studies for Zoology (2021) and departmental research committees.

Her research focuses on animal physiology, phytochemistry, zoology, life sciences, diabetes mellitus particularly stress enzymes, biotechnology, and pharmacy. Notable publications include 'Low methylated pectin: structure, sources, functional properties and emerging role in gut health and industrial applications' (2025), 'Synthesis of silver Nanoparticles@Carbon Dot Nanocomposites' (2025), 'Prognostication of Resistance Pattern of Colistin' (2025), 'Extraction of Phytochemicals Through Sequential Extraction Methods' (recent), 'Analysis of accumulation of heavy metals (Copper, Zinc)' (with D.S.R.S. Prakash and D. Kalyani), the book 'Water Quality and Biology of Kakinada Bay and Mangroves Area' (LAP Lambert Academic Publishing), and 'Family planning methods: four endogamous human populations of coastal Andhra Pradesh' (2021). She has produced 14 publications from 2008 to 2025, including journal articles, book chapters, books, and reviews. Dr. Nirmala has received awards such as Bharata Mahila Siromani (2018), National Women Empowerment Award (2017), National Yuva Seva Award (2017), Andhra Pradesh State Best Teacher Award (2017), Associate Fellow of Andhra Pradesh Akademi of Sciences (2016), Young Scientist Award (2015), and UGC-RJG Fellowship (2006). She is a life member of the Indian Science Congress, Research Society for Study of Diabetes in India, Andhra Pradesh Science Akademi, Indian Fisheries Association, Association of Biotechnology & Pharmacy, and Indian Journal of Scientific Research.
