Paige Brown is an Assistant Professor of Nutrition within the Health Science faculty at Fairmont State University, affiliated with the College of Education, Health and Human Performance. She holds a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science from West Virginia University. As Program Coordinator for the Nutrition Science minor, an 18-credit-hour interdisciplinary program, Brown oversees instruction that covers food and nutrients, their physiological functions, nutritional requirements throughout the human lifecycle, and influences on food choice and eating behavior. The program develops students' critical thinking and professional communication skills, preparing them for careers in healthcare, fitness, exercise science, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, graduate school, or medical school.
The Nutrition Science minor coordinated by Paige Brown emphasizes science-based nutrition principles through targeted learning outcomes: describing relationships between food, nutrients, and health; applying critical thinking to dietary problems; assessing nutritional status across life stages; discussing nutrient metabolism and functions; integrating nutrition into healthcare practices; recognizing social and environmental responsibilities in food production; identifying dietary patterns for chronic disease prevention; analyzing community nutrition needs; and examining influences on food choices and behaviors. It complements majors like Nursing for patient assessments and care plans, Exercise Science for metabolism and performance insights, and Community Health for nutrition programs, while supporting personal interests in healthy eating. Paige Brown also represents the Health and Human Performance department on faculty senate committees, contributing to university governance and academic initiatives. Her office is in 314 Colebank Hall.
