Professor Panos Vlachopoulos is Professor and Deputy Dean, Education and Employability, in the Faculty of Arts at Macquarie University. An academic educator with 15 years of international experience in higher education development, he has led large-scale curriculum development projects in the UK, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Greece, and Australia. He developed a learning design methodology for team-based curriculum design and a framework for reflection in professional learning. Vlachopoulos holds a PhD in Online Learning from the University of Aberdeen (2008), a Master in Education in Communication, Technology and Education from the University of Manchester (2002), a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Pedagogy from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2001), and a Senior Fellowship in Higher Education from the Higher Education Academy (2017). He has taught courses in technology-enhanced learning and teaching.
His research interests encompass online learning design, social network analysis, reflective practice, and digital professional skills. Notable publications include "A case for Team-Based Learning as an effective collaborative learning methodology in higher education" with Shazia K. Jan and Rebecca Buckton (College Teaching, 2021); "A systematic approach to designing, implementing, and evaluating Learner-Generated Digital Media (LGDM) assignments and its effect on self-regulation in tertiary science education" with Jorge Reyna, James Hanham, and Paul Meier (Research in Science Education, 2021); "Exploring modes of lecturing as a teaching method in higher education: Student attendance, preference and motivation" with Shazia Jan (Journal of University Teaching and Learning Practice, 2020); "What a difference a day makes: reflection retreats as academic development in higher education" with Marina Harvey (Journal of Further and Higher Education, 2020); and "A comparative study on the traditional and intensive delivery of an online course: design and facilitation recommendations" with Shazia K. Jan and Lori Lockyer (Research in Learning Technology, 2019). He served as Associate Dean, Quality and Standards, and Associate Professor in Learning Innovation in the Faculty of Arts. Vlachopoulos was Co-Editor of the Journal of Perspectives in Applied Academic Practice from 2013 to 2015.
