Partha Sarat Mohanram is the John H. Watson Chair in Value Investing at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto, where he serves as Professor of Accounting, Vice-Dean, Research, Resources and Interdivisional Programs, and Director of the CPA Ontario Centre for Accounting Innovation Research. He joined the Rotman faculty after serving on the faculties of Columbia University and New York University. Professor Mohanram obtained his PhD in Business Economics from Harvard University, his PGDM (MBA) from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, where he received a gold medal as the best all-round student, and his B.Tech in computer science from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. He holds the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA-CGA) designation and is a certified board director (ICD.D).
His research focuses on financial statement analysis, valuation of growth firms, implied cost of capital, executive compensation, and applications of social media, artificial intelligence, and machine learning in accounting. He has published extensively in these areas and serves as Editor-in-Chief of Contemporary Accounting Research, with editorial board roles at The Accounting Review and Review of Accounting Studies. His contributions have been recognized with awards including the Haim Falk Award from the Canadian Academic Accounting Association in 2017, the Rotman Research Impact Award in 2018, and the Notable Contributions Award from the American Accounting Association in 2022. He was named a Fellow of CPA Ontario in 2024. Professor Mohanram teaches advanced electives on business analysis and valuation across MBA, PhD, undergraduate, and executive education programs, including the Directors Education Program, and has received multiple teaching awards. He previously served as Area Coordinator for Accounting from 2016 to 2022 and as academic director of the India Innovation Institute at the University of Toronto.
