Dr. Patrice Ross is a distinguished educator in Arts and Culture at Columbus State Community College, where she served for over 35 years until her retirement in 2025. Holding a B.M.E. in Music from Wittenberg University, an M.M. in Music from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and a Ph.D. in Comparative Arts from Ohio University, Ross began her career at the college as a tenure-track faculty member in the Humanities Department. She advanced through various roles, culminating as Chairperson of the Humanities Department and Interim Department Chair. Throughout her tenure, she taught a variety of humanities courses and played a key role in developing the music curriculum. Ross fostered partnerships with community organizations such as BalletMet and Urban Strings, enhancing collaborative opportunities in the performing arts. She actively participated in panels at the Ohio Department of Higher Education and rallied her department around initiatives like College Credit Plus. Additionally, she advocated for increased displays and exhibitions to showcase the department's artworks and student talent, contributing significantly to the cultural life of the institution.
Ross's leadership extended to oversight of ensembles like the Concert Band, supporting performing arts programs at the Nestor Hall Center for Performing Arts. Her dedication was recognized by the Columbus State Community College Board of Trustees, who granted her emeritus status in September 2025 following favorable administrative recommendations and more than three decades of exemplary service. Resigning as Chairperson on August 15, 2025, Ross leaves a lasting impact on humanities education, music programs, and interdisciplinary arts initiatives at the college. Her career exemplifies commitment to academic excellence and community engagement in Arts and Culture.
