Dr. Patrick (Paddy) O'Regan is a Lecturer in the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work, Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences, at the University of Queensland. He earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Psychotherapy from Griffith University, a Master's (Coursework) in Psychotherapy from the Gestalt Association of Queensland Inc., a Master's (Coursework) in Social Policy from James Cook University, and a Bachelor of Social Work from James Cook University. Dr. O'Regan is available for Higher Degree by Research supervision. His career includes previous lecturing positions at Griffith University in health sciences and social work. He contributes to teaching social work courses, including SWSP7177.
Dr. O'Regan's scholarly contributions focus on psychotherapy education, Gestalt therapy training challenges in contemporary contexts, ethical issues in lifelong learning, and social work intersections with artificial intelligence. Notable publications include the book chapter 'Social work/AI entanglements' (2026) in AI and the Disruption of Welfare, edited by Goetz Ottmann and Carolyn Noble (Routledge, pp. 255-269), co-authored with Dorothee Hölscher and Sera Harris; 'Contemporary Gestalt Psychotherapy: The Tensions Between Practitioner Education and the Current Cultural Context' (2022, Psychotherapy and Counselling Journal of Australia, 10(2)); 'Ethical practice in adult lifelong learning: a reflection on its shifting nature and significance for the future' (2021, International Journal of Lifelong Education, 41(1), 60-75), co-authored with Richard G.
