Rate My Professor Patti McDougall

Dr. Patti McDougall serves as Interim Provost and Vice-President Academic at the University of Saskatchewan and holds the position of associate professor of psychology in the College of Arts and Science. She completed her undergraduate degree at Queen’s University, followed by a Master of Applied Science at the University of Waterloo and a Ph.D. in Human Learning, Development and Instruction at the University of British Columbia. McDougall joined St. Thomas More College, federated with the University of Saskatchewan, in 1998, where she served as a faculty member, assistant dean, associate dean, and interim dean before joining the University of Saskatchewan centrally in 2013 as vice-provost of teaching and learning. Her portfolio expanded in 2014 to encompass operations and initiatives in teaching, learning, and student experience. She advanced to the role of Deputy Provost in 2021, with strategic focus areas including microcredentials, education, diversity and inclusion, and the university’s Sustainability Strategy.

As a developmental and educational psychologist, McDougall’s research examines social relationships in childhood and adolescence, with emphasis on friendship, social status, and the long-term impacts of bullying and victimization, as well as student experience topics including youth-adult partnerships, the transition to university, educational goals, and factors influencing student retention. She has authored or co-authored articles in journals including American Psychologist, Sex Roles, Journal of Interpersonal Violence, Social Development, International Journal of Behavioural Development, and Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, and has contributed writing to the Royal Society of Canada. McDougall has received multiple awards from St. Thomas More College and the University of Saskatchewan recognizing her teaching expertise and commitment to student experience.
