Paul Kalfadellis is an Associate Professor in the Department of Management within the Faculty of Business and Economics at Monash University. He serves as Associate Dean, International Partnerships for the Monash Business School and as Director of the Master of Global Business program. Kalfadellis has been affiliated with Monash University since at least 1999, when his research outputs began. His expertise lies in international business, with research specializations including foreign direct investment, headquarter-subsidiary relationships, FDI and location choices, reshoring, clusters' impact on foreign firms' performance, and intercultural communication. He contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and 10 (Reduced Inequalities) through his research.
In his scholarly work, Kalfadellis has authored numerous publications in high-impact journals. Key papers include 'An institutional work view toward the internationalization of emerging market firms' (Yan, Zhu, Fan, & Kalfadellis, Journal of World Business, 2018; 142 citations); 'How do subsidiaries assume autonomy? Examining reshoring firms’ subnational location choices in the United States' (Rasel, Abdulhak, Kalfadellis, & Heyden, Regional Studies, 2020; 47 citations); 'Psychic distance and environment: impact on increased resource commitment' (Freeman, Giroud, Kalfadellis, & Ghauri, European Business Review, 2012; 36 citations); and 'Developing successful assumed autonomy-based initiatives: an attention-based view' (Cavanagh, Kalfadellis, & Freeman, Global Strategy Journal, 2023). His body of work totals 13 journal articles, 11 conference papers, 5 book chapters, 4 abstracts, and additional outputs, with over 416 citations on Google Scholar. Kalfadellis teaches courses in international business and cross-cultural management communication, including BEX5832 European Business and Society, MBA5709 The Business Environment, BEX5012 MBA International Study Module (Germany), and BEX3622 Issues in Global Business. He was awarded the Monash Graduate Association Lecturer of the Year for 2021, nominated and judged by graduate students for excellence in teaching.
