Rate My Professor Paul Rheeder

Professor Paul Rheeder is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Pretoria and Director of the UP Diabetes Research Centre. He holds the qualifications MBChB, MMed (Internal Medicine), MSc (Clinical Epidemiology), and PhD, and serves as a Consultant Physician at Steve Biko Academic Hospital. His research interests include diabetes management, diabetes complications, and cardiovascular disease. He has authored or co-authored over 90 peer-reviewed scientific publications and was awarded a Lilly Global Health Partnership grant in 2018 for a five-year period. Professor Rheeder has previously served as acting head of the School of Health Systems and Public Health at the University of Pretoria. He co-authored an international study published in The Lancet that identified a previously unrecognised form of diabetes in Africa.

Professor Rheeder contributes to diabetes research and clinical care through his leadership of the Diabetes Research Centre and involvement in projects such as the Tshwane Insulin Project. His work focuses on improving diabetes outcomes in hospital and primary care settings in South Africa.
