Penchan Phoborisut is an associate professor in the Department of Communications at California State University, Fullerton, where she joined the faculty in 2016. She earned her B.A. from Chulalongkorn University in Thailand, M.A. from San Francisco State University, and Ph.D. from the University of Utah. Phoborisut teaches courses such as COMM 202 Digital Reporting and Production and COMM 325 Multimedia Journalism, focusing on digital reporting, multimedia production, and visual storytelling. She is listed in the CSUF Faculty Experts Guide for expertise in Thai protests, activism, digital media, and advocacy. Additionally, she serves on the California State University, Fullerton Academic Senate representing the College of Communications.
Phoborisut's academic interests center on visual communication intersecting with new media technology, social activism, social justice, and democracy movements in Thailand. Her peer-reviewed publications include "K-Pop Fandom and Political Activism in Thailand’s 2020 Student Uprising" (with Jiwoo Park, International Journal of Communication, 2024), "Public performances as assemblages: contesting the narrative of Thailand’s 2010 crackdown" (Text and Performance Quarterly, 2022), "Reimagining Dissent in Thailand’s 2020 Uprising" (SAIS Review of International Affairs, 2020), "Contesting Big Brother: Joshua Wong, Protests, and the Student Network of Resistance in Thailand" (International Journal of Communication, 2019), and "The 2020 Student Uprising in Thailand: A Dynamic Network of Dissent" (ISEAS Yusof Ishak Institute Perspective, 2020). She has presented competitively selected papers at conferences including the National Communication Association, International Communication Association, Association for Asian Studies, and Council for Thai Studies, addressing topics such as digital activism, protest visuals, and political communication in Thailand. Phoborisut has received a Faculty Travel Grant from California State University, Fullerton.
