Petelo Sinamoni serves as the Pacific Outreach Programmes and Community Liaison at the Pacific Islands Centre (PIC) within the Student & Academic Services Division at the University of Otago. Located at 520 Castle Street, Dunedin, his role focuses on engaging Pacific communities throughout Aotearoa New Zealand to share information about tertiary education opportunities. He organizes and leads information fono, tertiary open days, and community sessions, providing details on university scholarships, tuition fees, accommodation options, and StudyLink support. These initiatives help prospective Pacific students and their families understand pathways to success at Otago, bridging community needs with university resources.
Sinamoni contributes to welcoming events for Pacific students, including the annual Pacific Welcome gathering at the St David Lecture Theatre, which sets a positive tone for the academic year. The Pacific Islands Centre supports Pacific students, families, and communities by offering academic assistance, pastoral care, and guidance on legal and immigration matters to ensure a stress-free university experience. Through his outreach, Sinamoni fosters a sense of aiga and belonging, promoting greater Pacific participation and retention at the University of Otago.
