About Peter

Professor Peter Davis is an Honorary Professorial Fellow in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Newborn Health within the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne. He served as Professor of Neonatal Medicine at The Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne, where he led the Department of Newborn Research. Davis completed his neonatal fellowship training at McMaster University in Canada, where he developed interests in clinical epidemiology and evidence-based medicine. His focus on non-invasive ventilation resulted in the award of an MD from the University of Melbourne in 1998.

Davis leads clinical research teams focused on improving care for newborns in the delivery room and intensive care unit, with particular emphasis on alternative methods of respiratory support for premature infants, neonatal resuscitation, and key outcomes of neonatal intensive care. He has extensive experience designing and conducting international randomised controlled trials and has contributed to more than 500 publications. Davis serves as Regional Coordinator of the Neonatal Review Group of the Cochrane Collaboration and as a member of the neonatal subcommittee of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR), which develops worldwide guidelines for neonatal resuscitation. He has also contributed to undergraduate and postgraduate education programs.
