Peter Evans is an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor in the Peninsula Clinical School at Monash University. He is a specialist in the area of Liver, Pancreatic and Biliary Surgery and laparoscopic upper abdominal surgery. Evans completed his medical degree at the University of Melbourne, followed by general surgery training at the Alfred Hospital. He advanced his expertise with a fellowship in Hepatopancreaticobiliary (HPB) surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA. He also holds a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Research Methods and a Master of Public Health from Monash University. In his career, Evans served as Consultant General Surgeon at the Alfred Hospital from 1998 to 2004 and Acting Head of the Professorial Surgical Service from 2004 to 2007. Currently, he is Director of Surgery at Peninsula Health and Head of the Upper GI & HPB Surgical Unit. At Monash University, he is Curriculum and Assessment Lead for Surgery and Senior Lecturer in Surgery. He serves as an instructor at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and is involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
Evans' research interests encompass liver surgery, pancreatic surgery, biliary surgery, and laparoscopic upper abdominal surgery. Key publications include "The association between quality care and outcomes for a real-world population of Australian patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancer" (HPB, 2022), "Barriers and enablers to the implementation of multidisciplinary team meetings: a qualitative study using the theoretical domains framework" (BMJ Quality & Safety, 2021), "Alcohol-related acute pancreatitis: Lessons learnt during the COVID-19 lockdown in Victoria" (ANZ Journal of Surgery, 2021), "Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) in pancreatic cancer: a systematic review" (HPB, 2020), and "Barriers and enablers to the implementation of protocol-based imaging in pancreatic cancer: a qualitative study using the theoretical domains framework" (PLoS ONE, 2020). He is a member of the Australia & New Zealand HPB Association, Australasian Gastro-Intestinal Trials Group, and International HPB Association. Evans reviews for the Victorian Audit of Surgical Mortality and Australia & New Zealand Journal of Surgery.
