Storey has directly contributed to curriculum development by preparing the course outline for ENG101 English Skills I in the 2022-2023 academic year, which focuses on enhancing students' proficiency across all language skills through reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities. He also instructed ENG181 Oral English I in the 2021-2022 academic year, a course tailored for first-year university students for whom English is not a first language, emphasizing oral communication skills.
Prior to his appointment at Hong Kong Shue Yan University, Storey was Head of the Centre for Language in Education at the Hong Kong Institute of Education. His career encompasses significant involvement in English language education in Hong Kong, including expatriate lecturing positions. Storey's research specializations encompass language programme evaluation, language testing, ESL/EFL writing instruction, corpus-based data-driven learning in academic contexts, and assessments of native-speaking English teacher initiatives. Key publications include 'Knowing and Doing in the ESL Writing Class' in Language Awareness (2006), analyzing process writing's impact on student skills and attitudes; 'Are sequencing tasks relevant tests of reading ability?' presented at the International Language in Education Conference (1995); 'Holistic and analytical measures in the search for language gain' (2000); and 'Re-conceptualising language policy for teacher education in a trilingual society' at the American Association for Applied Linguistics conference (2003). He co-authored 'Evaluation of the Native-speaking English Teacher Scheme for Primary Schools in Hong Kong' (2004-2006) with Patrick Griffin, Kerry Woods, and Edwin King Por Wong, and contributed to the 'Evaluation of the enhanced native-speaking English teacher scheme in secondary schools in Hong Kong 2016-2017 final report'. Storey edited 'Issues in language in education: Selected papers from ILEC'95' (1996) with Vivien Berry, David Bunton, and Philip Hoare. A recent publication is 'Using Discipline-specific Corpora Data-driven Learning in an EFL-medium University Setting: The Case of Apprehend and Apprehension in Legal Pleading' in The International Journal of Law, Language & Discourse, supporting EFL law students' legal writing via corpora. His evaluations have informed language education policies and teacher training in Hong Kong.
