Rate My Professor Peter Jaroff

Peter Jaroff served as Assistant Professor of Practice and Faculty Executive Producer of Temple Update in the Department of Media Studies and Production at Temple University's Klein College of Media and Communication. He joined the faculty in 2007 after a distinguished career spanning 25 years at 6ABC, Philadelphia's ABC affiliate WPVI-TV, and three years as an editor at KYW Newsradio. Over more than 18 years, Jaroff led the production of 390 episodes of Temple Update, a student-produced weekly newscast on Temple University Television (TUTV). His leadership transformed the program into a professional-grade newsroom, where students practiced pitching stories, conducting interviews, writing under tight deadlines, and producing broadcast segments.

Jaroff was renowned for his hands-on mentoring, offering detailed, direct feedback to help students refine their skills and build confidence. He advised on career strategies, internships, and networking, launching the careers of numerous alumni who now work as reporters, anchors, producers, and editors in newsrooms throughout the United States. By maintaining high production values, rigorous editorial standards, and a culture of accountability, Jaroff elevated the Klein College's national reputation for practical, high-quality media education and experiential learning. As executive producer, he encouraged student innovation, allowing them to incorporate contemporary industry techniques into Temple Update, such as new visual styles and storytelling methods. Jaroff taught courses including Writing Workshop (MSP 3196) and Senior Seminar (MSP 4039), further contributing to student development in television and media production. His commitment to bridging academia and industry prepared generations of journalists for successful professional paths.
