Rate My Professor Peter Leahy

Professor Peter Leahy is a Professor in the Faculty of Business, Government and Law at the University of Canberra and the foundation Director of the National Security Institute. He holds a BA (Military Studies) from the University of New South Wales, a Master of Military Arts and Science from the United States Army Command and General Staff College, and is a Fellow of the Australian Centre for Defence and Strategic Studies. He is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the Australian Army Command and Staff College, the United Kingdom Higher Command and Staff Course, and the United States Army Command and General Staff College.

Peter Leahy retired from the Australian Army in July 2008 after a 37-year career, concluding as a Lieutenant General and Chief of Army. Since joining the University of Canberra, he has lectured on topics including the challenge of modern terrorism and national security. His research interests include national security, defence, security relationships with Indonesia, and terrorism. He has received the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Engagement and the Dean’s Award for Mentoring a Faculty Student Society, along with numerous international military honours including the United States Meritorious Service Medal, Legion of Merit (Commander), and awards from Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, and France. He serves on boards including the Defence South Australia Advisory Board, Kokoda Foundation, and as Chairman of Soldier On, and provides occasional media commentary on defence and national security matters.
