About Petri

Petri Kuosmanen is Professor in the Department of Energy and Mechanical Engineering at Aalto University and Professor in Mechatronics. He specializes in areas such as Industrial Internet and Rotor Dynamics. Kuosmanen obtained his Master's degree in Engineering and Technology from Helsinki University of Technology on June 9, 1988, followed by a Licentiate degree in Engineering and Technology from the same institution on June 9, 1992, and a Doctoral degree in Engineering and Technology on May 25, 2004. His academic career is centered at Aalto University, where he contributes to research and teaching in mechanical engineering and related fields. With 250 research outputs, including journal articles and conference proceedings, Kuosmanen has made significant contributions to mechatronics applications.

Recent publications highlight his ongoing work. In 2026, he co-authored 'Ontologies for the generic motor winding process' in Advanced Engineering Informatics with K. S. K. U. Perera and Riku Ala-Laurinaho, and 'A probabilistic-driven approach for early design quality risk and crux identification using non-Markovian stochastic Petri nets' in Research in Engineering Design with Van Dung Truong, William Brace, Gabriele Benzoni, and Antonio Cammi. In 2025, contributions to the Proceedings of the 10th Baltic Mechatronics Symposium include 'Crane Hook System for Efficient Pallet Lifting' with Tatu Haakana and others, 'Platform for Small-Scale Wave Energy Converter Research' with Oliver Häggman and others, 'Comparison of Path Finding Algorithms for Autonomous Navigation of Mobile Robots' with Lasse Harju and others, 'Development of a Modular Automotive Drive by Wire Kit' with Arttu Heikkinen and others, 'Authenticating Gate for Safe Robot Entry into Restricted Access Areas' with Juhana Kulju and others, 'Device for in-situ Grinding of Elevator Guide Rails' with Jaakko Laitinen and others, and 'Porous Aerostatic Bearings for Elevator Guide Rails' with Onni Leutonen and others. He also co-edited the symposium proceedings with Panu Kiviluoma, Tauno Otto, Anton Rassõlkin, and Even Sekhri. Additionally, '3D Lidar based Human Detection for Digital Safety Zone in Overhead Cranes' appeared in the same proceedings with A. Monteiro Cocco and others.
