Petros Grivas, MD, PhD, FASCO, is a professor in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Washington School of Medicine and a professor in the Clinical Research Division at Fred Hutch Cancer Center. In Medicine, he serves as Clinical Director of the Genitourinary Cancers Program at UW Medicine, Medical Director for Local/Regional Outreach, and Medical Director for the International Program at Fred Hutch. He earned his MD and PhD from the University of Patras School of Medicine in Greece. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine/Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and his fellowship in hematology-oncology at the University of Michigan. Additional training includes the GME Scholars Health Care Administration and Leadership Program at the University of Michigan and the Harvard Business School Strategy for Health Care Delivery Program. Previously, he led the bladder and urothelial cancer program at the Cleveland Clinic and cared for patients at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Board-certified in medical oncology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine since 2013 and 2010, respectively, Dr. Grivas is fluent in English, Greek, and Italian.
Dr. Grivas specializes in treating patients with genitourinary cancers, including bladder, prostate, and testicular cancers. His clinical research has contributed to FDA approvals of new drugs for the most common type of bladder cancer and urinary tract cancers. He leads large innovative clinical trials investigating immunotherapies, targeted therapies, checkpoint inhibitors, and other novel agents, providing patients access to advanced treatments and generating key scientific knowledge that has improved global standards of care. An internationally renowned medical oncologist, he educates oncologists and trainees through frequent lectures, publishes novel research, and co-hosts the annual Updates in Bladder and Urinary Tract Cancers event for patients and loved ones. Dr. Grivas holds the distinction of Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (FASCO) and received the 2025 ECOG-ACRIN Young Investigator Award. He hosts the Oncology Insights podcast series at Fred Hutch, discussing advancements in various cancers.
