Phyllis McGinnis serves as a Lecturer in the Marketing department at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business. She commenced her teaching career at Questrom from 1999 to 2007 and returned in 2013, continuing presently. She teaches Marketing and Business Ethics to undergraduate students and designs, coordinates, and teaches business elective courses for high school students at BU Metropolitan College Summer Term. Her educational background includes an MS in Business from Boston University in Paris, France (1993), and a BA in History/Secondary Education from Boston College (1977).
McGinnis brings over 40 years of extensive senior leadership experience spanning consumer products and services, branding, marketing, product development, events, promotions, and sales management. She is a passionate, results-oriented consumer market leader and educator possessing over 20 years of senior leadership in these areas, including P&L responsibility. Driven to deliver innovative products, programs, and campaigns, she employs her creative, analytical, and 'feet on the street' expertise to drive results in innovation, branding, and profits. Her dynamic leadership style excels in collaboration and mentoring diverse, cross-functional teams, instilling motivation and vision. Additionally, she is accomplished in business plan development, presentation, and sales proficiency, effectively influencing across all tiers of organizations. As faculty advisor for the BU Fashion & Retail Society and the BU Guerilla Marketing Club, she is deeply committed to her students' success, affirming, 'Once you are my student, you are always my student, always there for you.' Her educational philosophy emphasizes being passionate, fearless, and focused, and she inspires with the words: 'Put your shoulders back, hold your head up, and look them in the eye. Do what you love. You will be incredibly successful, you already are.' Through her advocacy, support, and encouragement, she propels students toward their dreams via education, curiosity, and persistence.
