Great Professor!
Dr Pingping Han is a Senior Lecturer, NHMRC Investigator Fellow, and UQ Development Fellow in the School of Dentistry at the University of Queensland, where she leads the Epigenetic Nanodiagnostics and Therapeutics Group within the Centre for Orofacial Regeneration, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation (COR3). She earned her PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the Queensland University of Technology in 2014. Han's research focuses on three key themes: salivary diagnostics for periodontal disease, cell-free regenerative therapy for periodontal tissue engineering, and cellular nano-mechanics on different modified biomaterial substrates. Her work investigates extracellular vesicles from saliva and gingival crevicular fluid, 3D bioprinting, melt electrowriting scaffolds, nano-engineered titanium implants, polymicrobial biofilms, and biomarkers including microvesicle methylome and microbiome profiles, circular RNAs, histone deacetylases, and cytokines to assess periodontal disease status and therapy responses.
Han's achievements include the NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellowship with a 2025 Investigator Grant of $674,400, UQ Development Fellowship, and UQ Amplify Fellowship. With over 8,743 citations and an h-index of 35 on Google Scholar, her influence in the field is significant. Key publications comprise "Nano-engineered titanium implants loaded with gingival fibroblasts-derived microvesicles enhance early osseointegration and soft tissue attachment in vivo" (2026, Advanced Healthcare Materials), "Effect of periodontal therapy on salivary extracellular vesicle cargos: an exploratory study" (2026, Journal of Clinical Periodontology), "Synergistic potentials of small extracellular vesicles, biomaterials, and 3D bioprinting in periodontal regeneration: a scoping review" (2025, Extracellular Vesicles and Circulating Nucleic Acids), "Microbial DNA profiles of bacterial extracellular vesicles from 3D salivary polymicrobial biofilms - a pilot study" (2025, Advanced Healthcare Materials), "Bioengineered mPCL scaffolds with LiCl-stimulated hPDLCs cell sheets for enhanced periodontal regeneration" (2025, Clinical Oral Investigations), "Salivary Microvesicle Methylome and Microbiome Profiles in Periodontitis: An Exploratory Study" (2026), and "The therapeutic use of dental mesenchymal stem cells in human clinical trials" (2024, Journal of Dental Research). Her innovations advance diagnostics and regenerative approaches in periodontology.
