Piyush Tiwari is Professor of Property in the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning at the University of Melbourne. Holding a PhD, he brings extensive experience from academia and industry. Previously, he was Associate Dean and Director of the School of Real Estate at RICS School of Built Environment in Noida, India, and Director of Policy at Infrastructure Development Finance Company (IDFC) in India, contributing to urban infrastructure financing policies and editing the India Infrastructure Report 2011 on Water. He served as Senior Lecturer in Property and Program Leader for the MSc in International Real Estate Markets at the University of Aberdeen Business School from 2004 to 2009, held positions at HDFC, India's largest mortgage company, and at the University of Tsukuba in Japan. Piyush Tiwari has also been a visiting academic at the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad and Keio University in Tokyo.
His research specializations encompass housing economics and mortgages, commercial real estate investment, infrastructure policy and financing in developing countries, land management strategies, and post-disaster reconstruction. Piyush Tiwari has published ten books, including International Real Estate Economics (2010), Real Estate Finance in the New Economy (2014), India’s Reluctant Urbanisation: Thinking Beyond (2015), The Towers of New Capital: Mega Townships in India (2016), Development Paradigms for Urban Housing in BRICS Countries (2016), Delhi’s Changing Built Environment (2018), and Equitable Land Use for Asian Infrastructure (2020), alongside numerous peer-reviewed articles on house price dynamics, mortgage demand, urban housing policies, and real estate markets. He is a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Fellow of the Applied Property Development Institute (FAPDI), Vice President and Fellow of the Asian Real Estate Society, and member of the International Land Measurement Standards Committee. Piyush Tiwari serves as Associate Editor of the International Real Estate Review and on the editorial boards of Property Management, Journal of Property Research, Land, and Journal of Financial Management of Property and Construction.
