Praema Raghavan-Gilbert earned her degree from the Boston University School of Public Health in 1985. She received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the School of Public Health in recognition of her contributions to public health. Praema Raghavan-Gilbert served as Director of Medical Services at Pathfinder International, from which she is retired. She previously held the position of Chief Technical Advisor for the United Nations Population Fund. She participated in the World Health Organization's International Conference on Better Health for Women and Children through Family Planning. Praema Raghavan-Gilbert co-authored a publication on the design and implementation of a program quality assessment tool, featuring three case studies of primary health services in developing countries, affiliated with the National University of Singapore. Her work has focused on improving health service quality in reproductive health and family planning sectors internationally.
