Prashant Singh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, a position he has held since 2022. He earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in 2017. Prior appointments include Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering at Mississippi State University from 2019 to 2022, Research Scholar in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at North Carolina State University from 2018 to 2019, and Postdoctoral Associate in Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech in 2017. His research interests encompass advanced heat and fluid flow diagnostics for thermal management in high heat flux applications, porous media heat transfer for electronics cooling, particle flows through porous media for concentrating solar power applications, thermal energy storage, additive manufacturing, thermal energy conversion and storage, and micro- and nano-scale heat transfer. Singh leads efforts in developing power-dense heat exchangers using additively manufactured lattice structures for applications in concentrating solar thermal power, avionics cooling, power electronics, and high-efficiency heat pumps, supported by funding from the U.S. Department of Energy, National Science Foundation, and NASA.
Singh has received numerous awards, including the 2025 ASME Bergles-Rohsenow Young Investigator Award in Heat Transfer—the first for a University of Tennessee faculty member in the award's 22-year history—for contributions to thermal transport in architectured materials and experimental thermal diagnostics; the 2025 “The Momentum” Faculty Award from the MABE department at UTK; the 2021 Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award; the 2021 Junior Faculty Outstanding Research Award from Mississippi State University's Mechanical Engineering Department; and the 2017 ASME Warren M. Rohsenow Award. He serves as Associate Editor for the ASME Journal of Thermal Science and Engineering Applications since 2026, Chair of the ASME K-10 Committee on Heat Transfer Equipment, and member of the ASME K-14 Committee on Gas Turbine Heat Transfer. Key publications include “Experimental study on flow and thermal transport characteristics of moving packed bed through a channel featuring single column of inline cylindrical pins” (International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2025), “Transient Thermal Performance of Phase-Change Material Infused in Cellular Materials” (ASME Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2023), and “Effects of inherent surface roughness of additively manufactured lattice frame material on flow and thermal transport” (International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2023).
