Dr. Prashant Zaveri serves as an Honorary Clinical Lecturer in the Discipline of Orthodontics, Department of Oral Sciences, School of Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Otago. A dual specialist in orthodontics and periodontology, he holds registrations with the Dental Council of New Zealand, including general dental practice since 1997, orthodontic specialist since 2005, and periodontic specialist since 2018. His academic background includes a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Bombay in 1984, Master of Dental Surgery in Periodontics from the University of Bombay in 1986, Master of Dental Surgery in Orthodontics from the University of Bombay in 1989, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry from the University of Otago in 2011. Notably, he was the first individual to achieve double master's degrees at the University of Mumbai's dental faculty.
In his professional career, Dr. Zaveri operates a specialist private practice, Zaveri Orthodontic & Periodontic Centre, in Auckland, where he delivers comprehensive orthodontic and periodontal treatments. He emphasizes periodontal health as foundational to successful orthodontics, with extensive experience managing periodontally compromised dentition and gum diseases. From 1994 to 1997, he worked as a Senior Consultant and Certified Trainer for Quality Improvement in Health Care at the Qimpro Institute, an affiliate of Juran International Inc., USA. An active professional, he is a member of the New Zealand Dental Association and New Zealand Association of Orthodontists, and has served as Immediate Past President of Orthodontics New Zealand. Dr. Zaveri is a sought-after speaker at national and international conferences on topics such as orthodontic management of periodontally compromised teeth and gingival integrity in orthodontic patients. He also acts as an external examiner for orthodontic postgraduate programs, including at the University of Otago, contributing to clinical education and examination standards in the field.
