Professor Pravin Kumar serves as a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Delhi Technological University (DTU) in Delhi, India, and holds the position of Associate Dean for Outreach and Extension Activities. He earned his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, M.Tech. in Industrial Management from IIT (BHU) Varanasi, and B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Bhagalpur College of Engineering, Bhagalpur. With more than 15 years of teaching and research experience, his career includes roles at IIIT-Allahabad, Asia-Pacific Institute of Management, Delhi School of Management, and Career Institute of Technology and Management, Faridabad. He has contributed to curriculum development in Production and Operations Management at these institutions.
Pravin Kumar's academic interests encompass industrial engineering, operations management, supply chain management, quality management, operations research, and production engineering. He is the author of several textbooks, including Industrial Engineering and Management published by Pearson Education in 2015, Basic Mechanical Engineering by Pearson India in 2013, and Fundamentals of Engineering Economics by Wiley India. His research publications have garnered significant recognition, with notable works such as "Managing supply chains for sustainable operations in the era of industry 4.0 and circular economy: Analysis of barriers" (Resources, Conservation & Recycling, 2021; 549 citations), "Third party logistics (3PL) selection for cold chain management: a fuzzy AHP and fuzzy TOPSIS approach" (Annals of Operations Research, 2018; 330 citations), "Strategic issues in pharmaceutical supply chains: a review" (International Journal of Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Marketing, 2016; 226 citations), and "Strategic framework for developing resilience in Agri-Food Supply Chains during COVID 19 pandemic" (International Journal of Logistics: Research and Applications, 2022; 203 citations). He has published over 30 papers in international journals and conferences.
Among his honors are the Commendable Research Excellence Award for 2018-19 from DTU and the Best Case Study Award for 2007-08 from the National Council of Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering, Mumbai. Pravin Kumar is a life member of the Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering, the System Society of India, and the Society of Operations Management, India. His contributions have advanced sustainable practices and decision-making methodologies in supply chain management.
