Dr. P. V. Premalatha serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at M.I.E.T. Engineering College, Trichy, a position she has held since July 2022. She previously served as Vice Principal at the same institution from June 2021 to July 2022. Her academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, awarded in 2012, an M.E. in Structural Engineering from the National University of Singapore in 2003, and a B.E. in Civil and Structural Engineering from Annamalai University, Chidambaram, in 1999. Prior to her current role, she was Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at CARE Group of Institutions, Tiruchirappalli, from March 2012 to May 2021. Earlier positions include Ph.D. Research Scholar at NIT Tiruchirappalli from February 2008 to March 2012, Lecturer at JJ College of Engineering and Technology, Tiruchirappalli, in 2007, and Lecturer at Sona College of Technology, Salem, from May 2006 to May 2007. She began her professional career as a Design Engineer with IK TEC Engineering Pvt Ltd in Singapore from January to December 2003 and with 2YSP Engineering Services in Malaysia from January 2004 to June 2005.
Dr. Premalatha's research specializations encompass Soil Structure Interaction, Coastal Structures, and Concrete Technology. She has authored numerous publications in refereed SCI and Scopus-indexed journals. Key works include 'Assessment of radioactivity in textile sludge incorporated bricks' in the Indian Journal of Engineering and Materials Sciences (Vol. 30, pp. 165-171), 'Effect of tie rod anchor on the behavior of berthing structures' in Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Maritime Engineering (Vol. 174, Issue 4, pp. 102-111, 2021), 'Structural Performance of Concrete Beams with Micro-Reinforcement Strengthened with GFRP Laminates under Monotonic Loading' in Journal of Testing and Evaluation (Vol. 48, Issue 5, 2020), 'Deformation analysis of suspended type cut off wall of diversion structures' in Heliyon (Vol. 5, 2019), and 'Numerical Study on deformation of diaphragm cut off Walls under Seepage Forces in Permeable Soils' in Computers and Geotechnics (Vol. 102, pp. 155-163, 2018).
