Qianwen Xu received her PhD degree in electrical engineering from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in 2018. She subsequently held positions as a postdoc research fellow at Aalborg University in Denmark, a visiting researcher at Imperial College London in the UK, and a Wallenberg-NTU Presidential Postdoc Fellow at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore from 2018 to 2020. From 2020 to 2024, she served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Since 2024, she has been a tenured Associate Professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. She directs the Intelligent Sustainable Grid Lab (ISG @ KTH) since 2020 and serves as co-director of Dig-it Lab since 2024.
Her research focuses on advanced control, optimization, and artificial intelligence applications in power converter dominated grids and microgrids. She has authored over 100 peer-reviewed papers, including more than 60 in top IEEE transactions journals with 15 as first author, along with two book chapters. As principal investigator, she has secured over 20 research grants from sources including the Swedish Research Council, Swedish Energy Agency, Vinnova, Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program, EU Horizon programs, and others. She holds leadership roles such as Chair of the IEEE Power and Energy Society and Power Electronics Society joint chapter in Sweden since 2025 and Vice Chair of the IEEE Power Electronics Society Technical Committee on Energy Access and Off-Grid Systems since 2024. She serves as Associate Editor for several IEEE journals including Transactions on Smart Grid, Transactions on Sustainable Energy, and Transactions on Industrial Informatics. Her honors include the 2026 IEEE Power & Energy Society Outstanding Young Engineer Award for contributions to advanced control and stability of microgrids and high-IBR power systems, the 2025 IEEE J. David Irwin Early Career Award for outstanding contributions of advanced control and AI solutions in power electronic dominated grids, the 2022 Nordic Energy Challenge Award, the 2019 Humboldt Research Fellowship, and selection of her projects on the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences IVA 100 list in 2023 and 2024. She has contributed to organization and technical program committees for major conferences such as IECON and ECCE.
